You Again? was a half-hour sitcom initially airing as the Monday night lead-in on NBC, followed by Valerie. Created by Eric Chappell, the show was based on hit British sitcom Home to Roost. Jack Klugman was Henry Willows, a divorced Long Island supermarket manager whose life is disrupted when his estranged 17-year-old son Matt (22-year-old John Stamos) moves in with him. The series followed their difficult adjustments and familial ties as the conservative Henry deals with the girl-chasing Matt.
The sitcom maintained remarkable faithfulness to its British predecessor. Rick Mitz was producer on the first season, a sitcom enthusiast who put out a book on the genre in 1980. Elizabeth Bennett played the role of the sarcastic British housekeeper, Enid, in both the US and UK versions simultaneously. Stamos told the press that Klugman had personally asked him to co-star, and that Klugman was a mentor to him, teaching him about the biz. You Again? went through at least two different versions of show openings/theme music and occupied four different time slots. Although renewed for a second season, it was cancelled less than a year after its debut. Eight months later, John Stamos began appearing on long-running TGIF sitcom Full House.
26 episodes, 2 seasons. The series ran in several countries, including UK’s Channel 5 starting in 1998, over 11 years after it went off the air in the US.
